What We Do

Prenatal Care

We begin with an assessment and review of your health history to ensure you are a candidate for out of hospital care.

Each visit is up to 60 minutes. We begin by addressing any questions our concerns you may have, discuss various aspects of your pregnancy and upcoming birth, and provide guidance and information based on experience and evidenced based education. We’ll wrap up each appointment with mom’s vitals, monitoring baby’s growth and position, and listening to baby’s heartbeat.

Partners, children, and family members are encouraged to participate!

You can expect conversations regarding important decisions such as nutrition, exercise, routine procedures, risk factors, and other important health topics.

You will have individualized visits every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, and weekly until birth. We see you again at home within 24-48 hours, as well as office follow-ups at 2 and 6 weeks.

We monitor and offer routine labs, drawn in-home/office, throughout your pregnancy such as iron levels, gestational diabetes testing, GBS, etc. Referrals will be made as needed for ultrasounds and other providers if necessary.

Birth

Once labor begins, we will assess and determine when we will come to your home or when you will come to the center.

Upon arrival, we set up your birth space, providing regular assessments and continuous care to ensure mom and baby are both happy and healthy.

Following the birth, we will perform a newborn exam and monitor vitals for both mom and baby for at least 3 hours. Prior to departure, we will make sure clean-up is complete, and that mom and baby are comfortable and safely tucked into bed.

Choices like delayed cord clamping, immediate skin to skin, breastfeeding, and family involvement are routine.

We also encourage the use of water for labor and births, and will happily help in coordinating a tub rental if desired.

Postpartum & Baby Care

Following your birth, I will visit you at home within 24-48 hrs for a wellness check. We’ll discuss how breastfeeding is going, weigh baby, check Mom and Baby’s vitals, and assess healing.

This is when we will also do baby’s CCHD screen, birth certificate, and application for baby’s social security number.

We will follow on routine care at 2 and 6 week visits, with optional visits at weeks 1 &4, continuing to provide care and monitoring baby’s health and growth, as well as Mom’s physical and emotional wellbeing.

We will discuss your birth experience and answer questions you may have regarding newborn care, parenting, and natural family planning.
